Assisted Reproductive Technology in Singapore

SINGAPORE

Gestational surrogacy is currently banned in Singapore but there is promise that the legislature will permit it with certain guidelines:

The review and approval of gestational surrogacy will occur on a case-by-case basis;

Gestational carriers will have to be married with children;

Foreign women will be prohibited from acting as gestational surrogates, except for close relatives of the recipient couple;

Reimbursement for gestational surrogates will not exceed direct expenses;

Medical professionals will be prohibited from surrogate recruitment and reimbursement;

A prospective recipient couple must accept the child, even if it is born with congenital deformities;

Egg donation to the recipient couple will be strictly reviewed.
